JAL Wins 26th Straight With Win At KC

            John A. Logan prepped for next week’s Region 24 tournament with an easy 109-70 blowout win at Kaskaskia.

            The second-ranked Volunteers (28-2) won their 26th straight game with balanced scoring led by Curt Lewis who had 16 points.

            Five other JAL players took part in the scoring derby with 15 points by Quimari Peterson, 14 from Isaiah Stafford, 23 by Elijah Jones, 12 out of Teon Nesbitt and a ten-point effort from K.J. Debrick.

            Kaskaskia (19-11) was paced by Emanuel Prospere who scored 13 points. Ezereke Dawson had 12 and then ten points each from Tim Taiwo, Marcelous Phillilps and Jhei-R Jones.

            JAL which went 18-0 in Region play, led 47-24 at halftime.

            Logan will open the tournament next Monday at 2 p.m., EST, (1 p.m., CST) against either eighth-seeded Shawnee (11-17) or number nine seed Lewis & Clark (10-16). They meet in a play-in game at Shawnee Saturday afternoon.


Vincennes 80; Olney Central 70

            Fourteenth-ranked Vincennes closed out the regular season with an 80-70 home win over Olney Central.

            The Trailblazers (26-4) were already assured of the number two-seed in next week’s Region 24 tournament at Rend Lake College in Ina., ill.

            Coach Todd Franklin started all five sophomores and they responded by scoring 61 of VU’s 80 points led by Caleb Johnson’s 25-point effort.

            Trenton Johnson and Devawn White netted ten points each with nine from Tasos Cook and eight by Shilo Jackson.

            Olney Central (18-10) got a season-high 25 points from JaKobe Thompson who has averaged just under 20 points over the last seven games.

            DelShawn Simms hit four treys and scored 16 for the Blue Knights while Gavin Gilstrap had eleven points.

            The lead changed hands 12 times in the opening half before Vincennes took a 39-35 edge into the break.

            The Trailblazers went on a 17-5 run to start the final half, but Olney was able to stay within striking distance down to a 75-67 deficit with two minutes left in the game.

            Michael Osei-Bonsu scored inside on a pass from Cook to up the margin to ten points and the Blue Knights couldn’t recover.
