The Salem Wildcats gave what they could, but fell short in their 2a regional semifinal loss to top-seed Greenville at Wood River last night 65-56. The Cats led 35-33 at the half, but were outscored 14-5 in the 3rd quarter that was the difference. Salem missed a lot of opportunities in the lane for points as well. Junior Connor Tennyson led the Cats with 19, Senior Seth Bailey finished his career with 15 points. Greenville got 21 from sophomore Cale Ackerman and 17 from Junior Kaleb Gardner as they combined to make 6 three’s in the first half. The Cats season ends at 8-24 while Greenville is 20-11 and will play tomorrow Roxana after their upset of Piasa 34-24.
Also in 2a at Harrisburg, Carterville beat Eldorado 58-48 and Vienna over Carmi 70-47. At Lawrenceville it was the hosts over Fairfield 64-43 and Mt Carmel eliminated Newton 63-53. At Litchfield the hosts lost to Marquette 57-38 and Pana nipped Hillsboro 58-55. At Nashville, Breese Central knocked off Wesclin 60-46 and Mater Dei over Nashville 51-37. At Sparta, Columbia advanced 59-50 over Red Bud and Pinckneyville beat Freeburg 61-39. At TTown, the Shoes beat Shelbyville 68-35 and Robinson 60-53 winners over Flora.
