Area fire departments have handled a number of grass and woods fires.
Sandoval Firemen received mutual aid assistance from three other departments in fighting a Sunday afternoon fire in the 700 block of Community Beach Road on the Jack Wheat property. Fire Chief Chad Parson says the fire started as a trash fire that spread to some cattails and then into an abandoned oil tank battery before being blown into a wooded area. Odin Firemen were called for a brush truck and water. The Centralia Fire Protection District and the Centralia City Fire Department were called to bring UTV vehicles to be able to travel off the road. The fire covered two to three acres before being brought under control.

The fire call came in at 11:30 Monday morning with firemen on the scene for about two and a half hours.
Salem Firemen handled two fires Monday afternoon. The first fire on the Pat Worden property on Country Lane burned about a half acre of grass. It started from a brush fire that got out of hand.
