When it comes to 2a Regionals……it would be hard to find any better than the Sparta Regional. The tournament will feature 6 teams, five of which will sport 20 wins. The 9th seed Sparta (23-8) opens with 8 seed Red Bud (22-8). And whoever wins that dog fight, will be rewarded with the 5th ranked team in the state and 2nd seed Columbia as the Eagles are 27-3 with one game left Thursday night at 2nd ranked Breese Central (25-4), who is also in this sectional.
The other first round game features the 7th seed Freeburg who also has a respectable 20-11 record as they open with 12th seed Chester. If Coach Matt Laur and his squad win their opener, their reward is 3rd seed and 24-5 Pinckneyville.
The other regional at Nashville carries a lot of the same weight with favorites Breese Central along with Nashville and Mater Dei all with 20 wins along with Wesclin. It will be a lot of fun in Sparta and Nashville next week.
