Governor JB Pritzker is again threatening to close the troubled Choate Developmental Center in southern Illinois.
The facility in rural Anna has been plagued with reports of abuse and poor care of mentally ill and developmentally disabled patients. The Governor says there are several obstacles to solving the problems at Choate.
“One of the big challenges with some of these facilities are they are located where it is very hard to find personnel. We will continue to work on this because it is vital that we have the proper care for our developmentally disabled.”
Governor Pritzker says if the issues cannot be addressed, the facility should be shuttered.
