The Centralia Fairview Park Pool Committee met on Tuesday to continue to discuss the feasibility of building a new outdoor pool.
In a unanimous vote, the committee agreed to recommend to the city council a professional study be completed regarding the potential pool. The City council is expected to consider the request at the Monday, February 27th meeting. If approved, the survey will cost approximately four thousand dollars and will include information on square footage, amenities, population projections, and pricing structures for the future project.
Burbach Aquatics, Inc. would be doing the survey as one step of their multi-step process toward constructing aquatic centers and pools.
Economic Development Direction Derek Sherman says that Burbach has been very helpful so far and has a good track record.
“They are based out of Wisconsin and they sent an individual all the way and he is in Illinois, but they sent him all the way down here for our last meeting which means he drove 5 hours here and 5 hours back. Anytime anyone has had questions about Phase 1 Step 1 we had completed, they were happy to answer. And it was encouraging. He brought probably 12 different pool projects all done in the last year. He was able to say they were all successful and do not operate in the red.”
Much of the next pool committee meeting agenda depends on whether the city council votes in favor of the survey or not. The committee had developed its own survey and had planned a town hall meeting, but put that on hold because they felt the Burbach study would be much better.
There also will be a discussion about the removal of the current pool at the next pool committee.
