All of South Central Illinois now in low category for COVID-19 transmission

The weekly CDC tracker puts all South Central Illinois counties in the low transmission level for COVID-19 with a significant drop in new cases.

Marion County saw a 32-percent drop in COVID-19 cases to 28 new cases for the week ending Thursday.  There were two new hospitalizations.

Clinton County saw 38 new cases, a 14-percent drop, with two new hospitalizations.

Jefferson County had 23 more cases, an eight percent drop, and two new hospitalizations.

Washington County had under ten new cases, a 40-percent decrease, and one new hospitalization.

Wayne County had ten new cases, a 44-percent drop, and one new hospitalization.

Fayette County reported 20 new cases, a five percent decline.  Clay County had under ten new cases, a 33-percent drop.   Both counties reported no new hospitalizations.

Marion County Health Department Administrator Melissa Mallow in her weekly report said there were no deaths from COVID-19-related causes in the week ending on Thursday.   There are now seven Marion County Congregate Care facilities on outbreak status.  The most cases in any facility is 58.  Another has 49, a third 30, and a four facility 23 positive cases.  Another facility has nine new cases and two others four apiece.

The Illinois Department of Public Health reports in few cases statewide, with only 20 counties at the medium community infection level and none at the high level.   That’s down from 28 counties at an elevated level last week.  The total number of new cases statewide is 10,924.  There were 86 additional deaths reported in the week ending Thursday.

As of Thursday night, 999 individuals in Illinois were reported to be in the hospital with COVID-19.  Of those, 117 patients were in the ICU and 45 were on ventilators.
