The Salem Township Hospital Board on Wednesday got an update on the renovation of the ‘A wing’ at the hospital and at the West Whitaker Street medical clinic.
Hospital President Alex Nazarian says plans for the renovation of ‘A wing’ are still being finalized so cost estimates are not yet available. The space is the future home of three medical clinics. Nazarian reports demolition of the old patient room area is underway.
“All the infrastructure is old and in very precarious condition. The pipes are old and break easily, etc…in the meantime, we are designing a new space that will be conducive to good patient care for years to come. So we have to be very careful and try to predict what kind of services and what our patients may need in say 10 years. So that is why it’s taking a while.”
Nazarian says the West Whitaker facility renovation is now 98 percent complete.
“It was becoming a little cramped and it needed a facelift. So we spent about $250,000 during the past few months revamping the practice, the patients’ room, offices, and waiting area so it’s a more pleasant environment for our patients.”
Nazarian says all that remains is the installation of a few countertops in administrative areas. The product has not yet been delivered due to supply chain issues.
Nazarian says the work at West Whitaker was necessary because the facility now has four medical providers. He was pleased to announce center set a record for the number of patients seen last month at 506.
