Tuesday marked the three-year anniversary of the first confirmed case of Covid-19 in Illinois.
Illinois Department of Public Health Director Doctor Sameer Vohra says there was no way to know that the initial case would turn into more than 4 million Illinoisans contracting the virus and over 36,000 people dying. But he notes, we’ve come a long way.
“I do think the future is incredibly bright for us in Illinois, but it is really thinking through how we can work collectively together to build a public health system that makes every community in Illinois as healthy as they can be.”
Moving forward, Vohra says they will use lessons learned during the pandemic, ranging from the effectiveness of air filtration and masks to prevent the spread of the virus, to how to best communicate with the public and combat misinformation.
