One person received apparent minor injuries in a fire at the Super Eight Motel in Salem early Friday morning.

Salem Assistant Fire Chief and Fire Marshal Bill Fulton says fire was in a first-floor room and started on the desk.  The occupant of the room was able to get out on his own but sustained minor injuries and was taken to Salem Township Hospital.   The name of the person injured is not being released at this time.

A Salem Police Officer first on the scene knocked down most of the fire with a fire extinguisher.   Firemen laid a line to put out the small remainder of the fire along the floor.   In order to clear the heavy smoke from the one room, a window was broken out.

Fulton says smoke and water damage were confined to the one room and an area immediately outside the room in the hallway.   The State Fire Marshal’s office is investigating the cause of the fire because an injury was involved and the type of facility involved.

The fire call came in at 3:46 Friday morning with firemen on the scene until 5:30.
