Both Marion and Washington County remain at the high community transmission level for COVID-19 in the week ending Thursday.

Marion County is reporting nine new hospitalizations and Washington County three.   Normally, the CDC tracker also includes new and probably new cases of COVID-19 for each county, but the data is missing this week.

Four other area counties are at the medium level.  Both Clinton and Jefferson County have six new hospitalizations apiece, while both Fayette and Wayne Counties have had two new hospitalizations during the past week.

Clay County is at the low community transmission level with one new hospitalization during the past week.

Statewide, 59 of the 102 counties are at an elevated level of COVID-19 compared to 73 in the prior week.  Three counties are now at the high level and 56 at the medium level.   There were 16,602 new confirmed and probable cases during the week ending Thursday, with 113 deaths.

As of Thursday night, 1,395 individuals in Illinois were reported to be in the hospital with COVID-19.  Of those, 169 were in the ICU and 62 were on ventilators.

Marion County Health Department Administrator Melissa Mallow announced on Thursday one additional COVID-19 death of a female in her 90s who was a long-term care resident, was not vaccinated, and was hospitalized.  It was the 220th death in Marion County since the pandemic began.
