Fire caused damage to a lean-to attached to a pole barn on the Bobby Donoho property at 4187 Tonti Road north of Salem Tuesday morning.

The fire started in a chicken roost where a heat lamp appears to have caught some straw on fire.   A person at the scene used a garden hose to keep the fire down until firemen arrived.    The fire was confined to the lean-to and the one wall of the barn next to the lean-to.

Salem Firemen initially called Kinmundy-Alma, Odin, and Kell Firemen for mutual aid assistance.   While Kell Firemen continued to cover the Salem station in the event of another fire, Kinmundy-Alma and Odin were canceled before arriving at the scene.

The fire call came in just after eight Tuesday morning and was on the scene for about an hour.

Earlier in the morning, Salem Fire Protection District Firemen were called to a car fire in the North American Lighting Parking Lot owned by Bobbie Prior of Lake Road in Centralia.   A bystander sprayed a dry chemical onto the fire until firemen arrived who put out the rest of the fire with a water foam extinguisher.   Damage was confined to the engine compartment.  The fire call came in at 6:15 Tuesday morning.
