Melinda B. Newell, 73, of Waltonville, Illinois, passed away at 10:15 am December 5, 2023, at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mount Vernon, Illinois.
She was born February 9, 1950, in Mount Vernon, Illinois to the late Emil and Fay (Hester) Norris. Melinda married Jerry Newell on November 15, 1968.
In addition to her husband of fifty-five years, Melinda is survived by her son, Patrick Newell and wife, Melissa of Mount Vernon, Illinois; grandson, Dustin Newell of Waltonville, Illinois; brother, Larry Norris and wife, Linda of Mount Vernon, Illinois; sister, Sally Norris of Waverly, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Melinda was preceded in death by her brothers, Alan and Frank Norris, and sister, Maria Lynn Norris.
Melinda worked as a technician for Dr. Kenneth Clark and later for Wal-Mart Eye Center. She was a very loving person and enjoyed living life to the fullest.
A Graveside Service will be held Saturday, December 16, 2023, at 10:00 am at Knob Prairie Cemetery in Waltonville, Illinois with Pastor Jason Newell officiating. Inurnment will follow. Memorials may be made in Melinda’s honor to the Waltonville Fire Department.
