Marolyn “Mama” Faye Steuer, age 75 of Salem, passed away on December 3, 2023, at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon.
Marolyn was born on February 2, 1948, in Salem, the daughter of Fred and Cora (Nettles) Steuer.
She is survived by her daughter, Shelly Steuer of Salem; her twin sister, Kay Vickery and husband Forrest of Pinckneyville; sister, Agnes Doremire of Odin; best friend, Debby Shepard and her family Shawn Shepard, Amber Shepard and Ben, and their children, Payton, Adalynn all of Poplar Bluff, MO; and John Shepard and Jamie, along with his family of Nevada; very close friend, Kathy Fuller of Salem; a friend that is more like a daughter, Traci Eberhart and husband Willy along with their family, among them a special grandson, Carter Phillips and also a special niece, Gidget Finley. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, other family, and good friends. Marolyn was a mom to lots of Shelly’s friends and loved them all along with some special ones such as Tracy Melton and Tammy Smith.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Frederick Steuer and Charles Steuer and wife Lucille; sisters, Betty Seisser, Helen Bronson, Leona Shanafelt, Nancy Groff, and Stella Becker; nephew, Jim Groff; and a very close friend, Tim Shepard.
Marolyn was a cook for many years and over those years she worked at Café 37 the Chuckwagon, the White Brick, the Starlite, Denny’s, Elks Club, and Salem Township Hospital for the last 15 years. She loved her job at the hospital and the people she worked with were like family. She would laugh and people would say, “Fay’s here”.
A Celebration of Life for Marolyn Fay Steuer will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, December 9, 2023, at Crouse Funeral Home in Salem. No tears, just laughter, because Marolyn was a firm believer in laughing and country music. There will be a time to visit with the family from Noon until the time of the service.
