Martha L. Wiggins, 92, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 8:50 pm on December 1, 2023, at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mount Vernon.
She was born February 13, 1931, in Jefferson County, Illinois to the late Roy and Laura (Oliver) Birkhimer. Martha married Robert H. Wiggins on March 28, 1950. They were blessed with 56 years of marriage before Robert preceded her in death on June 23, 2006.
Martha is survived by her daughters, Linda Odle and Rebecca Clemens and husband, Tom Givens, all of Mount Vernon; sons, Don Wiggins and wife, Starr of Mount Vernon, David Wiggins and wife, Catherine of Anoka, Minnesota, Darrell Wiggins and wife, Teri of Mount Vernon, and Daniel Wiggins of Mount Vernon; grandchildren, Melissa Newell and husband, Patrick, Mike Clemens, Kari Joseph and husband, Justin, John Wiggins and wife, Samantha, Josh Wiggins and wife, Hannah, Jake Feather and wife, Kate, Whitney Degenhart and husband, Matt, Justin Wiggins and wife, Sara, and Mark Wiggins and wife, Tristan; great-grandchildren, Dylan Visser and Jasmine Hernandez, Jessica Clemens and Alex, Madison Joseph, Owen Feather, Ben Feather, and Reed Feather, Cooper Degenhart, Addie Degenhart, Gus Wiggins, Nora Wiggins, Tessa Wiggins, Tate Wiggins, Graham Wiggins, Julian Wiggins, and Andriana Wiggins; great-great-grandchildren, Embrey Visser, Jade Irvin, and Rayden Irvin; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Martha was preceded in death by her brother, Norman Birkhimer; and sister, Helen Dulaney.
Martha was a member of Bonnie Baptist Church and loved going to church. She also enjoyed sewing in her spare time. Martha will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
A Visitation will be held Thursday, December 7, 2023, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Newell Funeral Home in Mount Vernon. The Funeral Service will begin at 1:00 pm with Mr. TJ Howard officiating. Interment will follow at Zion Cemetery in Wayne County, Illinois. Memorials may be made in Martha’s honor to Zion Cemetery.
