Final weekly crop report: Harvest now complete and winter wheat now in the ground

Harvesting is complete and winter wheat has been planted as we hear in the last weekly crop report of the season.

This past week was slightly warmer and drier than normal and average statewide topsoil moisture is nearly unchanged at 12% very short, 16% short, 70% adequate, and 2% surplus.

Crop Statistician Mark Schleusener looks at winter wheat.

“For winter wheat in Illinois, 84% of acres have emerged compared to 90% one year ago and 93% for the 5-year average.  The condition of the winter wheat crop in Illinois was reported as 6% very poor to poor, 64% fair, and 30% good to excellent.”

Pasture conditions were rated as 39% in good to excellent condition.

Average statewide topsoil moisture is nearly unchanged at 12% very short, 16% short, 70% adequate, and 2% surplus.

The weekly crop report will start back up again in April.
