The deer harvest for the first shotgun deer hunting weekend November 18th to the 20th was up statewide and across South Central Illinois.
Statewide, 52,354 deer were harvested, compared to 48,964 during the first shotgun deer hunting season last year.
In Marion County, 188 more deer were taken with 1,186 harvested. The number is up 269 from the 2020 harvest of 917 deer.
In Clinton County, 606 deer were taken up 113 from the first shotgun deer hunting season last year.
In Jefferson County, 1,249 deer were taken, up 21 from last year.
In Washington County, 771 deer were harvested, up 99 from last year.
In Fayette County, 1,184 deer were taken, up 78 from last year.
In Clay County, 889 deer were taken, up 124 deer.
In Wayne County, the harvest was 1,015 deer, up 80.
The second shotgun deer hunting weekend is set for December 1st through the 4th. The archery deer season continues until January 15th, except during the upcoming second shotgun weekend.
