Dennis W. Runge, age 78 of Salem, passed away on Saturday, November 18, 2023, at Helia Healthcare in Salem.
Dennis was born on August 1, 1945, in St. Peter, the son of Raymond and Ruth (Naber) Runge. He married Janet Sue (Himstedt) Runge on April 6, 1968, at the Hillsboro United Methodist Church and she survives in Salem.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Barry Runge and wife Beth; grandson, Rhett Runge; brothers-in-law, Alan Himstedt and wife Deanna and Steve Lach; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Marlene Ireland, and husband Danny; and sister-in-law, Joyce Lach.
Dennis was a member of the Salem Lutheran Church. He was baptized, confirmed, and raised in St. Peter, attending the Lutheran School. He started his working career in farming as he was growing up, and often worked construction jobs in the summer. After one year in college, he enlisted in the United States Army and served in the Vietnam Era for three years. After his discharge, he worked for TSC, RC Farm and Home, FS Tires, Goodyear, True Value, as a real estate agent, Jiffy Manufacturing, World Color Press, Wal-Mart, in the oil business, and Ace Hardware. His last, and favorite job was as a taxi and caregiver for his grandson from ages eight weeks to eighth grade.
