Donald Richard “Don” Parrish, Sr., 94, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on October 20, 2023.
Don was born on October 5, 1929, to Lorena Bullock Parrish and Earl Parrish, who preceded him in death. In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by his daughter, Suzan Lorena Parrish; sister, Betty Opisso; and brothers, Wendell Parrish and Tyke Parrish.
Don is survived by his children, Donald R. “Rick” Parrish Jr. and wife Jamie, Alyson “Renae” Storey and husband Adrian, Amyah Parrish, T.J. Parrish and wife Sara; grandchildren Chrissy Crane, Kelly Knight, Jessie Parrish, Allie Parrish, Sage Parrish-Fedora, Riley Dawn Parrish, Max Parrish, Marlow Parrish; great-grandchildren Wyatt Overacker and Arya Parrish; brother Truman Parrish and wife Sheila; and several nieces, nephews and extended family.
Fondly known as “D.O.G.” (Dear Ol’ Grandad), he leaves behind a legacy of love, generosity, kindness, joy, adventure, and gratitude. Don proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Don put his family first and was an avid adventurer and entrepreneur. He was a member of First Community Church and attended Logan Street Baptist Church and Central Christian Church. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge Shriners Organization. He was generous with his time and possessions, never keeping count or score. Don was a loving father and loyal friend who loved deeply and unconditionally. He would never say “goodbye”, preferring instead to bid farewell by flashing his trademark peace sign along with a “so-long” and a reminder to “keep the faith”.
A Visitation will be held Friday, November 10, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Hughey Funeral Home.
