About 1,200 high school students participated in a Career Fair last Friday at Kaskaskia College.
College President George Evans hopes the event helped students to look at the variety of opportunities available to them. He was one of the opening session speakers.
“My future is in your hands because I’m an old man and I need the future generation to make not only the workforce, but this country as a whole survives. And that depends on the youth and that depends on you guys.”
The event was sponsored by the Career and Technical Education System of Marion, Clinton, and Washington Counties in conjunction with Kaskaskia College and the Education for Employment System of Bond, Fayette, and Effingham Counties. Dr. Dwain Baldridge is the director of the Career and Technical Education System.
“Our high school career fair consists of students from 20 different high schools from the five counties in the Kaskaskia College District. We have over 70 presenters, and approximately 61 sessions prepared for the students today. These presenters have given up their time. They are volunteers. And they are ready, willing, and excited to share with the students about their occupations and professions.”
Students had an opportunity to learn more about Agriculture Careers, Automotive Technology, Carpentry Occupations, Dental Assisting, to Manufacturing, Nursing, Teacher Education, and Welding Technology.
