Cheryllynn Kay Wheaton, also known as Kay, peacefully passed away on October 15, 2023, at the age of 70 in St. Louis, MO.

She was born on October 26, 1952, in Marion, IL, to the late Dean and Jean Clark.  Kay was a loving wife to Alonzo Wheaton and a devoted mother to her daughters, Carrie Cain, Ila Sampson, and Vanessa Wehking.  She was also a cherished mother-in-law to Dusty Sampson and Jeff Wehking.  Kay adored her grandchildren, Liam (Ila) and Lilly, Dean, and Jonah (Vanessa).  Kay is also survived by her sister, Carolyn Clark.

In addition to her parents, Kay was preceded in death by her brothers, Darryl, John, and Robert, as well as her dear friend, Pam Marshall.

Kay was known for her kind and generous nature.  She had a great sense of humor and brought joy to those around her.  She will be deeply missed by her family and friends, including her dear friend Ruth Ann Mashburn and dear cousin Becky Catino.

Kay dedicated her career as a Paraprofessional at Carlyle Community Unit School District, where she made a positive impact on the lives of many students.  Her commitment to education was unwavering, and she will be remembered for her dedication and passion.

A visitation will be held at Zieren Funeral Home in Carlyle, IL on Saturday, October 21, 2023, from 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM.  A Celebration of Life service will be held at 1:00 P.M.  In honor of Kay’s memory, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Carlyle Community Unit School District or to The Alzheimer’s Association in lieu of flowers.  Contributions made to these organizations will continue Kay’s legacy of supporting education and finding a cure for Alzheimer’s disease.

May Cheryllynn Kay Wheaton’s soul find eternal peace, and may her memory be a source of comfort and inspiration to all who knew her.
