Yvonne Marie Sledge, 87, of Mt. Vernon, passed away on October 9, 2023, at her home.
She was born April 16, 1936, in Coello, Illinois, the daughter of Sherman and Mary (D’Haillecourt) McClellan. On December 5, 1953, in Mt. Vernon, she married Burrell Sledge, and he survives.
Yvonne attended Sesser High School. She was a member of East Salem Baptist Church, and later, Harmony Church. She was a member of The Order of the Eastern Star, #1014, in Dix, and worked as a bookkeeper for various oil companies. She also worked passionately for the past 35 years as a full-time caregiver for her husband, Burrell.
In addition to her husband, Burrell Sledge of Mt. Vernon, she is survived by a son, Matthew Sledge and wife Katrina; daughter, LaRhonda Harlan and husband Rick; four grandchildren, Alyssa (Harlan) Hughett and husband Jacob, Morgan (Sledge) McWaters and husband Byron, Shelby Sledge, and Elijah Sledge; and several great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by an infant son, Jeffrey Alan Sledge; and two brothers, Arthur McClellan and Donald McClellan.
A graveside funeral service for Mrs. Sledge will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 18, 2023, at East Salem Cemetery, in Mt. Vernon.
