Linda Janell ‘Jan’ Green, 67, of East Moline, formerly of Salem, passed away Sunday, September 17, 2023, at the Allure Nursing Home in East Moline, Illinois.www.sutherlandfuneralhome.com and the Sutherland Funeral Home Facebook page.
She was born March 29, 1956, in Centralia, the daughter of Willard Green and Lois (Wells) Green. In addition to her mother, Lois Green of Salem, Jan is also survived by her brother: Ed Green and wife Julie of Kinmundy; sister: Su Phelps and husband David of DeFuniak Springs, Florida; her BFF of 30 years: Dana Diamond of Moline; three nephews and 2 nieces: Robert Dailey, Seth Green, Laura Spiller, Sarah Bridges, and Eric Phelps; 10 great nieces and nephews: Wyatt Green, Madison Green, Ezra Jane Bridges, Eamon Bridges, Miranda Dailey, Samantha ‘Bean’ Dailey, Jillian Dailey, Rylen Phelps-Nelson, Caiden Phelps and Aspen Phelps; two uncles: Jim Green and wife Connie and Ken Green and wife Marcia; two aunts: Dawn Green and Mary Ann Morris; and her companion of 45 years: Tony Qualls. Jan was preceded in death by her father: Willard Green, paternal grandparents: James and Retha Green; maternal grandparents: Rolla and Lucille Wells; great-niece: Morgan Green; three uncles: Tom Green, Virgil Morris, and Muriel Ward; and three aunts: Lowanna Green, Lucy Green Morris and Ellen Ward. During her grade school and high school years, Jan played the clarinet, played softball, ran track and she was a very strong swimmer. In 1974, Jan graduated from Salem High School with High Honors. She attended Eastern Illinois University, where she graduated with High Honors. Jan dedicated 30 years to the Illinois Department of Revenue until her retirement. She then continued her career as Secretary for the AFSCME Union. Jan also served on the Board of Elections for Sherrard, Illinois. Jan was known in the Eastern part of Illinois for her passion for rescuing and taking care of animals. Reading a good book and watching one of her favorite movies were just a few things that Jan enjoyed. She was a big fan of Star Trek and was known as a ‘Trekkie’. Jan was a very devoted and loving daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. Private Graveside Services will be held Wednesday, October 4, 2023, at 11:00 AM at Paradise Cemetery in Salem with Pastor David Phelps and Chaplain Jim Green officiating. In Jan’s Honor, memorial donations may be made to the City of Salem Animal Control and will be accepted at the Sutherland-Rankin Funeral Home 310 North Broadway / P.O.
