George H. Germann, 91, of Mount Vernon, Illinois passed away at 1:53 a.m. September 24, 2023, at Green Tree Assisted Living in Mount Vernon, Illinois.

He was born on July 18, 1932, in Woodlawn, Illinois to the late Reinhard A. and Nellie A. (Piercy) Germann. George married Marjorie Ann (Gowler) Germann on July 8, 1951, at the Second Baptist Church in Mount Vernon, Illinois.

In addition to his beloved wife of seventy-two years, George is survived by his children, Randy Germann and wife, Kathy of Port Charlotte, Florida, Debbie Terry and husband, Marty of Mount Vernon, Illinois, Sonya Germann of Marion, Illinois, and Scott Germann and wife, Nestora of Midland, Texas; grandchildren, James Wilson and wife, Keegan of Camden, South Carolina, Ashton Orrell and husband, John of Mount Vernon, Illinois, Michele Sena and husband, Josh of Midland, Texas, Brian Heinemann of Midland, Texas, Michael Heinemann of Midland. Texas, Beau Germann of Fort Myers, Florida, and Brett Germann of Danville, Illinois; great-grandchildren, Ryggs, Ryker, Emilia, Henry, Harrison, Elaina, Mallory, Brooklynn, Ambria, Noah, Chloe, Noah, Amaya, Arianna; siblings, Vera Place of Woodlawn, Illinois, Viola Weatherford of Mount Vernon, Illinois; sisters-in-law, Jean Germann of Mount Vernon, Illinois and Rita Germann Veatch of Mount Vernon, Illinois; and special family and friends, Julie Strauss, Janet Kniffen, and Andy Germann.

In addition to his parents, George is preceded in death by his granddaughters-in-law, Jodie Germann and Ashley Heinemann, and siblings, Jake Germann, Alvin Germann, and Louise Smith.

Mr. Germann proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict from November 21, 1952 until September 16, 1954. He served on the school board at Woodlawn Grade School from 1966-1974 and was president from 1970-1974. George served on the Personal Committee at Logan Street Baptist Church and served in Bus Ministry at Second Baptist Church and Logan Street Baptist Church. He owned Germann Trucking and Timber. George was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather and will be dearly missed.

A Visitation will be held Friday, September 29, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Logan Street Baptist Church in Mount Vernon, Illinois. A Visitation will be held Saturday, September 30, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Logan Street Baptist Church in Mount Vernon, Illinois. A Funeral Service will begin at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Alan Smith officiating. Military Rites will be held by American Legion Post #141 at the cemetery. Interment will follow at Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn, Illinois. Memorials may be made in George’s honor to Residential Hospice or Logan Street Baptist Church.
