2023 09/23 – Ruth E. Spicer

Ruth E. Spicer, age 76, of Louisville, Illinois, passed away Wednesday evening, September 21, 2023, at Twin Willows Nursing Center in Salem.

She was born November 18, 1946, in Clay County, the daughter of Loren and Pearl (Logan) Hockman.  She was united in marriage to Van Terry Spicer on July 19, 1968, at Oak Mound Christian Church, and together they shared 52 wedding anniversaries until his death on October 1, 2020.

Ruth became the first woman draftsman at Sparton Manufacturing and later worked at the Clay County Courthouse in the Circuit Clerk’s office.  She loved creating stained glass, crafting, painting, cooking, and traveling.  For many years, Ruthie was a dedicated member of the Hoosier Township Cemetery Board.

She is survived by her son: Phillip (Ericka) Spicer; a grandson: Dustin (JoAnna) Spicer; 2 brothers-in-law: Bob Anderson and Darrell Spicer; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews; and her beloved dogs: Scooter and Daisy.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; 2 sisters: Judy Anderson and Fern Krutsinger; and 3 brothers: Buddy, Ed, and Ron Hockman.

A funeral ceremony will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 23, 2023, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora.  Interment will follow in Oskaloosa Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.  Memorial donations are suggested to Clay County Animal Rescue & Shelter (CCARS) and these will be accepted through the funeral home.  To share a condolence or memory, visit: www.frankandbright.com
