Mary Edith Tacke, 103, of Mt. Vernon, formerly of Patoka passed away Monday, September 18, 2023. She was born on August 30, 1920, the daughter of William Fletcher and Roxy Opal (Ballard) Linton at her family’s home in Patoka. She married Albert F. Tacke on June 2, 1948, and they were united in marriage for 29 years.
Survivors that will remember Mary Edith’s generosity to everyone include her beloved family, children, Verna Decker of Hurst, Illinois, and Buddy Tacke and wife Regina of Maineville, Ohio; grandchildren, Tina Ellis of Centralia, Illinois, Heather Brewer of O’Fallon, Missouri, and Kory Mount of Reynolds Station, Kentucky; 6 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Mary Edith was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, William Linton; her grandchildren, Ashley Anders, Roxanne Tacke, and Christopher Anders; her great-grandchild, Kameryn Dunahoo; and her son-in-law, Frank Decker.
Mary Edith had an amazing business sense and was the owner of Mary Edith’s Beauty Shop, where she expertly did hair for her clients from 1977-1983. She was a faithful member of Patoka Christian Church where she served by sharing the good news of salvation through Jesus, as a Sunday school and VBS teacher. Mary Edith was a wonderful cook and happily volunteered to cook for all the young campers at Oil Belt Christian Service Camp in Flora for years. Mary Edith was a lady of strong faith, humble, generous, and kind. Those who were blessed to know her will hold treasured memories of times spent together dear to their hearts.
A graveside service will be held at 12:00 p.m. Friday, September 22, 2023, at Harrison Cemetery in rural Patoka with Pastor John Klockenga officiating. Friends and relatives are welcome to a visitation time from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at the Day Macz Funeral Home in Patoka on Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Mary Edith’s honor to Harrison Cemetery.
