Marie Antionette Flanagan, 89, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 12:02 p.m. September 11, 2023, at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mount Vernon.
She was born September 27, 1933, in Waltonville, Illinois to the late Roy Morton and Eithel (Ferguson) Wilson. Marie married Alva Eugene Flanagan on December 11, 1954, in Mississippi. He preceded her in death in February 1999.
Marie is survived by her son, Richard Eugene Sadler (Jean); daughter, Patricia Lynne Knott of Bonnie, Illinois; sister, Dorothy Donoho; grandchildren, Jeffrey Alan and Amanda Knott, Stephanie Marie and Frederick Zobel, Richard Joseph Burque, Douglas W. Sadler, and Charles and Lana Sadler; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, Marie was preceded in death by her children, David Randall Jarvis, Michael Lee Flanagan, and Bonnie Ann Flanagan; son-in-law, James D. Knott; and siblings, Ardyce, Winona, Nelda, Katherine, Louise, Roy Lee, and Winston.
Marie enjoyed playing bingo and making holiday meals for her family. She was a loving mother and grandmother and will be deeply missed.
A Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 16, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon. A Funeral Service will be held Monday, September 18, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at Old Shiloh Cemetery in Mount Vernon with Mr. Marty Mills officiating. Interment will follow. Memorials may be made in Marie’s honor to the family, in care of Rick Sadler.
