2023 09/17 – James Robert Schulik

James Robert Schulik, aged 94, of Fleming Island Florida, passed away on Sept.9, 2023.

Jim was born on June 1, 1929, to Paul and Emma (Oberhofer) Schulik in Mt Vernon, Illinois.  His grandparents were all first-generation immigrants from Germany and Poland.  He had a typical small-town/country childhood in southern Illinois.

After Jim graduated from high school, he enlisted in the US Air Force because he wanted a chance to fly.  Unfortunately, he was assigned to be a radio maintenance instructor and spent his Air Force time in a classroom in southern Illinois.

Jim‘s career was in banking and finance. He was a lifetime fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and often spoke of the time he attended the World Series game of the St. Louis Cardinals vs. the St. Louis Browns.

Jim was a Christian and a member of the Hibernia Baptist Church. Jim made 7 trips with Carpenters for Christ to construct churches and three mission trips to Haiti.  A highlight of his travels was his trip to the Holy Land.

He leaves his wife, Barbara (Lynn) of Fleming Island, FL; daughters Jane (Phil Stump) of Orlando, FL; Jean Ellen (Danny Kuehn) of New York City; Judith (Kurt Swanick) of Philadelphia, PA; granddaughters Elizabeth (Anthony DeMaio), Lauren (Andrew Duce) Rebecca (Chad Russell), Sarah (Peter Rowan), great-grandchildren Catherine DeMaio and Diana DeMaio; stepchildren Jeanne (Rick Montgomery), Dan (Kathleen Foster), Steve (Jean Ann Foster), step-grandchildren Heath Foster, Brandy (Scott Gau), Eric Montgomery, Dustin (Janna Foster), Drew (Beth Foster), Amanda (Josh Berne), Larry Faudree; step-great-grandchildren Christopher Montgomery, Jack Montgomery, Mari-Corinne Montgomery, Caleb Montgomery, Savannah Foster, Sydney Foster, Calvin Foster, Sophia Foster, Jack Foster, Simon Foster, Juliana Foster, Isabella Foster, Elijah Brown.

Jim was predeceased by his parents and a sister, Norma (Jack Totten).

Services will be held in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens Chapel in Woodlawn, Illinois on Sunday, Sept. 17 at 2:00 p.m. Memorial Services will be held at Hibernia  Baptist Church in Florida at a later date.  Call Hughey Funeral Home at 618-242-3348 or visit hugheyfh.com for further information.
