Arthur Lewis Easton, 96, of Patoka passed away surrounded by the love of his family, on Saturday, September 9, 2023, at his home in Patoka.
He was born on May 30, 1927, the son of Harry R. and Flora Elizabeth (Houston) Easton in Patoka. He married the love of his life, Eleanor Bates on April 23, 1951, in Corinth, Mississippi and she preceded him in death on March 18, 2022.
Survivors that will hold dear memories of Art include his beloved family, daughter, LuAnn (Kevin) Jones of Edwardsville; grandchildren, Adam (Grace Havis) Jones of St. Louis, and Whitney (Nick Sotolongo) Jones of Chicago; great-granddaughter, Sofia; sister-in-law, Marilyn Bates of Patoka; and several nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
Along with his wife of 70 years Eleanor Easton, Art was preceded in death by his parents Harry and Flora Easton; brothers, Bill Easton, and Kenneth Easton.
Art was a graduate of Sandoval High School, Class of 1944. After graduation, Mr. Easton was proud to serve his country in the United States Navy. He was a faithful member of the Patoka Christian Church alongside his beloved wife, Eleanor. Art appreciated his hometown of Patoka and was an active member of the Patoka American Legion Post 543. He formed Easton Brothers, along with his brothers Bill and Kenneth. Together they farmed, raised cattle, and drove a milk truck. In his spare time, Art enjoyed playing cards with friends and family, reading, and following his favorite sports teams. His greatest joy was watching his grandchildren’s activities and seeing them grow up. Art will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 14, 2023, at the Patoka Christian Church with Hap Jolliff officiating. Interment will follow at Patoka City Cemetery where military rites will be accorded by the Patoka American Legion Post 543. Friends and relatives are welcome to a visitation time from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the church on Thursday. Memorials may be made in Art’s honor to Patoka Christian Church or the Patoka American Legion.
