Janis C. Burns, 76, of Keenes, passed away at 7:15 p.m., Thursday, September 7, 2023, at her home.
She was born November 28, 1946, in Cleveland, Tennessee, the daughter of Clyde Thomas and Naomia Josephine (Phillips) Leek. On January 4, 1965, in Perryville, Missouri, she married Harold Eugene Burns, and he survived.
Jan graduated from high school in La Grange, Illinois, and was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. She worked at Hawkins Orchard for twenty-three years and then worked for three years at Soapy Joe’s Laundry Service. The most important thing in Jan’s life was her family, and spending time together. She enjoyed collecting antiques. She also collected gingerbread and loved apples.
In addition to her husband, Harold Burns of Keenes, she is survived by two children, Michael Burns and wife Charla of Woodlawn, and Monica Marlow and husband Jason of Mt. Vernon; grandchildren, Seth and Tiffany Burns of Mt. Vernon, Sarah and J.R. Leinicke of Woodlawn, Chelsea McGee of Mt. Vernon, Alexandria Burns of Missouri, and Jaylen, Brennan, Kobe, and Emma Marlow of Mt. Vernon; and great-grandchildren, Holden and Kaden Burns, Kyson Sears, Zaylee and Zayn McGee, JoJo Morgan, and Sophia and Amelia Marlow. She was preceded in death by a son, Duane Scott Burns, and her parents, Clyde and Josephine Leek.
A graveside funeral service for Mrs. Burns will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 12, 2023, at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held Tuesday, September 12, 2023, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., at the Osborn Funeral Home in Dix.
