Rose Mary Jourdan, 90, of Sandoval, passed away surrounded by the love of her family, on Monday, September 4, 2023.
She was born on June 2, 1933, the daughter of P. Edward and Catherine L. (Sitton) Thomas at her family’s home in Sandoval. Rose Mary loved her siblings dearly and kept their memory alive as the last of her 10 siblings. She married John McCarthy in 1954, and they later divorced. She married Perry Jourdan in 1967, and they later divorced.
Survivors who will remember Rose Mary’s unique, giving nature include her beloved family, her children, Michael McCarthy and wife Kandace of Lake in the Hills, Annette Nattier and husband James of Patoka, Jennifer Torbeck and husband Mike of Sandoval, and David Jourdan and wife Debbie of Centralia; stepchildren, Julie Orrell of Sandoval, Janice Hendry and husband Vance of Patoka, Perry Jourdan and wife Carin of Sandoval, Paula Jourdan of Centralia, and Bill Henson of Sandoval; grandchildren, Conor Kain and wife Hannah, Edward Kain and wife Lindsey, Adam McCarthy, Jamie Nattier and wife Cassie, Karlie Coffey and husband Tyson, Kara Belcher and husband Adam, Tiffany Martinez and husband Terry, Victoria Lyons and significant other Jacob, Christian Jourdan, Noah Jourdan, and Olivia Jourdan; great-grandchildren, Josie, Braylon, Vivian, Abe, Uly, Theo, Bo, Tymber, Violet, Lanie, Joel, Shep, Gwen, Addy, and Burke; her brother-in-law, Bob Perry; her son-in-law, Chuck Kain and wife Gayla host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
Rose Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Ed and Catherine Thomas; her siblings, Agnes Farthing and husband Ralph, Bill Thomas and wife Ruth, Margie Bowen and husband Roy, Ruth Perry, Rita Lusch,
Tommy Joe Thomas, Peter Edward Thomas, Charlotte Carson and husband George, and Edith Leffew; her children, Catherine “Cathy” Kain, and Timothy McCarthy; and her grandsons, Brenton McCarthy, and Kyle and Kaden Lyons.
Rose Mary was a devout catholic and member of the St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Sandoval where she was a valuable member of the Ladies Sodality. She was involved in the community she called home and an active member of the Sandoval Women’s Club. Rose Mary was no stranger to hard work and was a loyal employee of Warren G. Murray Center, and she was a great encourager for the children at Sandoval Grade School while working as a paraprofessional. She was an accomplished artist, painting beautiful portraits for her church, her family, and her friends. Rose Mary compassionately opened her home to provide a nurturing, comfortable space for teenage, foster children. She was an amazing mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, keeping close ties with all her family members and keeping the opportunity to make memories together of utmost importance. Some people fill their lives with hobbies and personal interests, but Rose Mary felt the best investment was found in sharing life with others, spreading generosity, kindness, and love.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 8, 2023, at the St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Sandoval with Father Patrick Peter officiating. Interment will follow at Sandoval City Cemetery, where Rose Mary will be laid to rest beside her son, Tim and daughter, Cathy. Friends and relatives are welcome to a visitation time from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Friday at Day Macz Funeral Home in Sandoval. A rosary prayer service will be held at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made in Rose Mary’s honor to St. Lawrence Catholic Church or Mass Intentions in her name.
