The Marion County Health Department has announced the death of a female in her 40s who was COVID-19 positive.
Health Department Administrator Melissa Mallow says the woman was a long-term care resident and was not vaccinated. Mallow reports the death is the 215th since the pandemic began.
The number of Marion County congregate care facilities in outbreak status has grown to seven. One facility has reached 30 positive cases. Another has 26. A third facility has 18 positives. The others have two, five, seven, and eight positives.
The CDC COVID-19 tracker is reporting 142 confirmed or probable cases in the week ending Thursday. Even with the five percent increase in cases, the county has dropped from high to medium level for community spread. There were five new hospitalizations during the week. The rate of infection is 382 per 100,000 people.
Two counties moved into the high community spread category. Jefferson County had 111 new cases, or a 52-percent increase over the prior week, and nine new hospitalizations. Wayne County jumped to the high category with 120 new cases, a 100-percent increase over the prior week. There were four new hospitalizations.
Clinton County is at the medium community spread level. The 67 cases during the past week are down 25 percent. There were three new hospitalizations. Washington County is at the medium level with 25 new cases, a 17-percent decrease. There were two new hospitalizations. Clay County is also at the medium level with 84 new cases. That’s a 115 percent increase over last week. Fayette County had 54 new cases, a 49-percent decline with one new hospitalization.
Statewide there were 26,127 new cases and 70 additional deaths. 30 Illinois counties are now rated as high community level and 60 others at the medium level.
As of Thursday night, 1,263 individuals in Illinois were reported to be in the hospital with COVID-19. Of those, 154 patients were in the ICU and 46 patients with COVID-19 were on ventilators.
