2023 08/30 – George Gale Garrod

George Gale Garrod, 93, of Bluford, Illinois, passed away at 7:30 p.m. on August 26, 2023, at Mount Vernon Health Care Center in Mount Vernon, Illinois.

He was born November 14, 1929, in Jefferson County, Illinois to the late Charles and Dessie (Donoho) Garrod. George married Roselee F. (Dalton) Garrod on January 1, 1956, in Kickapoo, Illinois. They were blessed with 53 years of marriage before she preceded him in death on April 24, 2009.

George is survived by his daughters, Sharon Kane and Debra Fenton and husband, David, all of Bluford; grandchildren, Lisa Hayes and husband, Kenny, Joseph Fenton, Dalton Kane, Joshua Kane, Alicia Hall and husband, Patrick, Matt Kane and wife, Amber, and Sarah Richardson and significant other, Mark James; great-grandchildren, Christopher Brown, Dylan Brown, Travis Crider, Jesse Fenton, Zoya Fenton, and Elisha Kane; siblings,  Ivan Garrod and Betty Lenz, both of Bluford, and Joyce McKinnis of Florida; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and beloved wife, George was preceded in death by his grandson, Jason David Fenton; son-in-law, James Kane; brothers, Clay Garrod and Francie Garrod; and an infant sister.

George proudly served his country in the United States Army. He was a true farm boy and loved to fish. George would help anyone who needed it. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

A Visitation will be held Tuesday, August 29, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon. A Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, August 30, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at Ten Post Oak Cemetery in Keenes, Illinois with Chaplain Brad Garner officiating. Interment will follow. Full Military Honors will be conducted at the cemetery by the American Legion Post #141. Memorials may be made in George’s honor to the Alzheimer’s Association.
