A 32-year-old Salem man has been sentenced to four years in prison for unlawful use of a weapon by a felon.

Anthony Hays of East Church admitted to having a stun gun in his possession during a July 15th incident.  As part of the plea, charges of possession of methamphetamine and armed violence for having a weapon while in possession of illegal drugs were dropped.

Salem Police say Hayes was arrested on the drug and weapon charges after he was questioned when allegedly found urinating in public in the 500 block of Allmon Street.

Hays will serve the time concurrently with a 30-month prison term handed down in October 2020 on a burglary conviction.

Hays will be recommended for substance abuse treatment while in prison.  He’ll also have to serve one year of parole when getting out of prison.  All pending traffic charges were dismissed as part of the plea.
