A Clinton County Sheriff’s Department squad car was struck while assisting the driver of a broken down pickup truck on Old US 50 near Huey Road on Tuesday morning.
State Police say the deputy was able to push the driver of the disabled vehicle out of the way and both avoided being struck by the RTS Coach Bus.
Preliminary information indicates the Clinton County Squad Car with its emergency lights on was pulled to the right side of US 50 providing traffic control for the broken down truck when the driver of a RTS Coach Bus lost control. After striking the squad car, the coach bus left the right side of the road, rolled over, and came to rest in a corn field. The impact forced the squad car into the side of the disabled truck.
There were no injuries.
The driver of the bus, identified as 35-year-old Derrick Koerkenmeier of Carlyle, was ticketed for a Scott’s Law Violation and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
The crash occurred at 8:38 Tuesday morning.
