Al ‘Monti’ Minton, 84, of Centralia, passed away Monday, August 14, 2023, in St. Louis, Missouri surrounded by his family.www.sutherlandfuneralhome.com or the Funeral Home’s Facebook page.
Monti was born December 22, 1938, in Pinckneyville, IL, the son of William Minton and Ruthie (Lueker) Minton. He married Judith (Copple) Minton on August 11, 1957, and he preceded her in death on January 13, 2022, after 64 years of marriage. Monti is survived by his two sons: Terry Minton and wife Pamela of Ashley and Jeff Minton and wife Dana of Centralia; three grandchildren: Julie Burchett and husband Brandon, Stacie Minton and Brian Minton; 10 great-grandchildren; sister: Ruth Alice Younkers; sister-in-law: Julie Copple; and also many nieces and nephews. Monti was preceded in death by his parents: William and Ruthie Minton; brother: Sam Minton; sister: Mary Anna Nollman; and brother-in-law Don Copple. Monti served in the U.S. Navy for 20 years as a communications technician. He was a member of the Cornerstone United Methodist Church in Centralia. Monti enjoyed observing wildlife, mushroom hunting, and going fishing and hunting. He cherished the time he spent with his family. Funeral Services for Al “Monti” Minton will be held Monday, August 21, 2023 at 6:00 pm at the Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home in Centralia. A visitation will be held for family and friends on Monday, August 21, 2023, from 5:00 pm till the time of service at the Funeral Home. Private family burial will be held at a later date at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Centralia. In memory of Monti, memorial donations may be made to the Cornerstone Methodist Church or to Southtown Shalom Food Pantry and will be accepted by the Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home at 235 North Sycamore Street in Centralia, Illinois 62801 (618) 532-3523, who is honored to be of service to the Minton family.
