2023 08/09 – Kenton ‘Wyett’ Cook

Kenton “Wyett” Cook, 50, of Opdyke, Illinois, passed away at 2:25 pm on August 4, 2023, in Evansville, Indiana. He was born July 9, 1973, to Melvin and Marlene (White) Cook, who reside in Kinmundy, Illinois.

On September 16, 2000, Wyett married Brandy Jo Pitts in Iuka, Illinois. He was the proud father of Alivia Jade Cook and Landon Wyett Cook, both of Opdyke. Wyett is also survived by his siblings, Trella Bass and husband, Justin of Kinmundy, Carrie Woodcock and husband, Tony of Bluford, Illinois, and Laura Moyer and husband, Eric of Flora, Illinois; nephews, Brandon Hart of Carmi, Alex Hart of Kinmundy, Lucas Woodcock of Bluford, and Jase Moyer of Flora; nieces, Bayley Moyer and Tymberlan Moyer, both of Flora; Brandy’s parents, David and Joyce Pitts of Opdyke; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Wyett worked for the last 22 years at Union Pacific Railroad. He was a member of the Baptist faith. Wyett’s family was his life. He loved to hunt and fish, and could often be found on the side by side or trail riding with his family. He loved life.

Wyett was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Lucille and Charles Cook; maternal grandparents, Alietha and Verle White; and uncles, Charles “Deon” Cook and William “Tex” White.

A Visitation will be held Tuesday, August 8, 2023, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois. A Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, August 9, 2023, at 11:00 am with Reverend Bud Storey officiating. Interment will follow at Black Oak Ridge Cemetery in Opdyke, Illinois. Memorials may be made in Wyett’s honor to the Cook family, in the care of Brandy Cook. Memorials will go toward Alivia and Landon’s college expenses.
