The Centralia City Council Monday night will be asked to approve resolutions to improve the 5th Street Railroad Crossing and resurface a portion of State Route 161.   The council will also be asked to declare nine properties as surplus and seek bids for their purchase.

While the city would not incur any expenses with the replacement of the railroad crossing on Fifth Street, the roadway could be closed for up to nine months during construction.  The estimated cost of the project is $93,715.   The city would receive a 60 day notice prior to the road being closed.

The council will be asked to enter a letter of understanding with the Illinois Department of Transportation for improvements to 2.8 miles of Illinois Route 161 that will include sidewalk curb ramps between Beech and Pleasant for ADA accessible crossings.  The estimated $1.6-million project would be funded by the state.

The council will be asked to declare nine mostly vacant properties as surplus and seek bids for their sale.  The properties are at 1107 South Poplar, 316 West McCord, 215 West 3rd, 705 East Cormick, 424 West Second, 916 East Second, 1335 South Locust, 330 Melrose and a lot on Meadow Lane off Raccoon Lake.

A resolution approving an agreement with EJ Cooperative, Inc. for a certified wastewater operator will be presented.  City Manager Kory Smith says the EPA is increasing the number of hours the operator must be present at the plant making the agreement necessary.

The council will be asked to approve the Mayor’s appointment of Michael Fleeman to the Airport Advisory Committee.

The meeting begins at six at Centralia City Hall.
