Phillip J. Potter, 61, of Odin, passed away Saturday, July 29, 2023 at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia.www.sutherlandfuneralhome.com and the Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home Facebook Page.
He was born February 9, 1962 in Centralia, the son of Clarence Potter and Helen (Blasdel) Potter. He married Nancy Robbins on December 27, 1980 and she survives. In addition to his wife of 42 years, Nancy Potter of Odin, he is also survived by his children: Myra Arnold and husband Greg of Central City, Megan Williams and husband Chad of Centralia, and Jacob Potter and wife Brittany of Centralia; ten grandchildren: Lexi Meyer, Gavyn Arnold, Chris Arnold, Alexis Arnold, , Kathara Williams, Kaden Williams, Brooke Kleiboeker, Jackson Kleiboeker, Kaleb Kleiboeker, and Karson Kleiboeker; one great-granddaughter on the way: Haleena Kuenkler; three brothers: Rick Potter and wife Joyce, Tom Potter, and Douglas Potter and wife Dana; three sisters: Patty Kufrin, Alice Potter and Becky Kramer; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; and mother and father -in-law: June Douglas and John of Centralia. Phillip was preceded in death by his parents: Clarence and Helen Potter, a brother: Chuck “Mike” Potter, four sisters: Debra Webb, JoAnn VanHaulst, Susie Sizemore, and Nancy Kay Clements, and father-in-law: Larry Robbins. Phillip was the owner of Potter Construction for many years. He also was the head maintenance man at the Hoyleton Childrens Home in Hoyleton. He was a member of the Central City Lions Club and the Labor Union for several years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and woodworking. Phillip loved watching and taking care of his grandchildren. He cherished the time and memories that were spent with his family and friends. A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, August 4, 2023 at 10:00 AM at the Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home in Centralia with Pastor Alan Nollman and Matt Robbins officiating. Visitation will be held Thursday, August 3, 2023 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Central City Lions Club and will be accepted at the Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home at 235 North Sycamore Street Centralia, Illinois 62801, (618)532-3523, who is honored to be of service to the Potter Family.
