A 35-year-old Salem man was formally charged in Marion County Court on Friday with two counts of aggravated battery for allegedly hitting a 28-year-old Salem woman in the head with a pistol.

Trevor Britton of Markland Drive told the court he would hire his own attorney.

Britton was arrested Thursday by Salem Police following an investigation of the incident that allegedly occurred during a fight in a home in the 600 block of North Marion Street early Monday morning.

Salem Police learned of the incident after the woman went to the Salem Township Hospital for treatment.   She was later taken to a St. Louis hospital for treatment before later being released.
