Salem Township Hospital is 80 years old this year.
Hospital President Alex Nazarian says a large community celebration had to be nixed because of COVID-19, with the hospital celebrating in smaller ways.
One of the first was a fundraising campaign to raise money to purchase 100 pillows for beds made by Sleep in Heavenly Peace. Nazarian says once the staff learned the beds were going to kids who did not have one to sleep, enough money was raised to buy 233 pillows.
“To give back to our community because we are here for 80 years because of our community. They care about us, and we care about them.”
The hospital’s goal is to participate in 80 different community events by the end of the year.
The Happy Heart Quilt Guild in Salem, of which several Salem Township employees are members, joined in by making 100 quilts for some of the beds.
