Sales of adult-use cannabis in Illinois jumped by 50% in the last fiscal year.
Illinois Department of Revenue spokesperson Maura Kownacki says recreational marijuana sales climbed to one $1.5-billion in fiscal year 22 generating major sales tax revenue.
“A record breaking $445 million was collected from adult use cannabis in 2022, which was a 50% increase.”
Kownacki says 25% of that is earmarked for disadvantaged communities.
“The state has awarded $113 million in grants using funds generated from the taxes on adult use cannabis to support and invest in underserved communities throughout the state.”
Kownacki says the sales tax revenue has also been good for local governments which received disbursements totaling over $146-million.
