SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia has maintained a 5-star rating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services for the third straight year.   Good Samaritan Hospital has earned a four-star rating for the third year in a row.

The President of St. Mary’s Hospital Damon Harbison notes SSM Health agreed to use the CMS 5 Star rating as a proxy measure for quality with the goal of all ministries at a 5 Star rating by 2023.   He says they are thrilled to achieve the 5-star rating for 3 consecutive years ahead of their goal.

The overall star rating for hospitals summarizes quality information on important topics, like readmissions and deaths after heart attacks or pneumonia. The overall rating, between 1 and 5 stars, summarizes a variety of measures across 5 areas of quality into a single-star rating for each hospital. The 5 measure groups include mortality, the safety of care, readmission, patient experience, and timely and effective care.

The more stars, the better a hospital performed on the available quality measures. According to CMS, the most common overall hospital rating is 3 stars.

The President of Good Samaritan Hospital Jeremy Bradford says they are very proud of the ongoing commitment that their staff and providers make to offer the best care to thier patients.
