Vandalia man pleads guilty to meth and weapons charges in federal court

A 45-year-old Vandalia man has entered a guilty plea in US District Court to one count of distribution of methamphetamine, one count of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, and one count of a felon in possession of a firearm.    Shane Hans faces up to 20 years imprisonment when sentenced on November 17th.

As part of the guilty plea, Hans acknowledges that on May 14th, 2021 he possessed, with intent to distribute, approximately 15 grams of methamphetamine that was recovered by law enforcement officials from his residence in Vandalia.   He also acknowledges he possessed a firearm recovered from his residence on that date, knowing he was a convicted felon.   Hans further acknowledged on July 24th, 2021 he knowingly distributed approximately 14 grams of methamphetamine from his residence in Vandalia.

US Attorney Rachelle Aud Crowe is thanking the Federal Bureau of Investigation-Springfield Field Office and the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office for their work in investigating the case and notes that ‘this kind of cooperative effort between federal and local law enforcement agencies is essential to make our communities safer.
