The Salem Fire Protection District was called to an air conditioner fire at the Sam Collins residence in the 4400 block of CJ Heck Road on the south side of Salem late Thursday night.
Fire Marshall Bill Fulton says the breaker controlling the air conditioner inside the house had either tripped off or turned off before firemen arrived.
The electrical problem destroyed the electrical box controlling the air conditioner, but Fulton says the unit itself was not damaged. He reported there was some smoke coloring on the nearby wall, but no actual damage.
The fire call came in at 10:30 Thursday night.
