Salem City Council Monday night to consider special use permit and new gas department truck

The Salem City Council Monday night will consider a special use permit to locate a used double-wide mobile home on three vacant lots at 712 East Boone Street.   The planning commission has given its approval provided the home is on a fixed foundation and has a pitched roof.

The council will consider the one bid for a replacement truck for the Gas Department that is in this year’s budget.  However, the bid doesn’t meet the specifications for a full-size truck.  It is instead a midsize truck.   The bid from Schmidt Ford of $45,028 is under the amount budgeted for the full-size truck.    City Manager Rex Barbee feels the city should move forward on the purchase due to the truck it is replacing having over 100,000 miles and starting to have maintenance issues.

The council will be asked to allow the Greater Salem Area Foundation to use the Disc Golf Course in Bryan Memorial Park along with shelter #2 for a fundraiser on Sunday, November 27th.

Barbee indicated at the last meeting he expected to be able to announce the new police chief to replace the retiring Sean Reynolds at Monday’s meeting.

It begins at six Monday night at Salem City Hall.
