Salem City Manager Rex Barbee expects to name the city’s new police chief at the July 18th city council meeting.
After the meeting Tuesday night, Barbee said nine applied for the position. Two are currently members of the Salem Police Department, two others are from the local area, two others are from the Chicago area and the rest are from other parts of Illinois.
Barbee is completing the first round of interviews this week.
Police Chief Sean Reynolds has announced his retirement effective August 19th.
