You can expect to see more law enforcement out on the roads this holiday weekend.
Illinois Department of Transportation spokesperson Paul Wapple says police will be cracking down on drunk drivers, distracted drivers and speeders through the 4th of July holiday.
“There will be more state police and more than 200 police and sheriff’s department across the state. It also corresponds with IDOT’s campaign “It’s Not A Game” which is basically when you are behind the wheel you don’t get a respawn or a 2nd chance so concentrate what you are doing, drop the phone, buckle up and obviously don’t ever drive impaired.”
22 people died on Illinois roads last year during the holiday weekend. That’s the highest total in the last five years.
