A 31-year-old Kinmundy woman was been sentenced to 18 years in prison for predatory criminal sexual assault and child pornography.
Vickie Odem of Wilcoxen Road had entered an open plea to the charges in April in exchange for a second predatory criminal sexual assault charge and three other child pornography charges being dropped.
Judge Mark Stedelin sentenced Odem to 12 years in prison to be followed by mandatory supervised release from three years to life on the Class X predatory criminal sexual assault charge and six years in prison on the child pornography charge. State law requires the sentences to be served consecutively.
State’s Attorney Tim Hudspeth says Odem will have to serve at least 85 percent of the sentence on the predatory criminal sexual assault charge and 50 percent of the child pornography charge or at least 13.2 years. Hudspeth had asked for 30 years on the predatory criminal sexual assault charge and 20 on the child pornography charge.
All of the charges dealt with the same child under the age of 13. The child pornography charge she entered a guilty plea was for making a videotape of the child. Two of the other child pornography charges were dropped then accused of her disseminating the video to a specific person.
In a statement of allocution before the sentencing hearing, Odem apologized to her family for what she had done.
