Three people were injured in a two-car crash at 13th and South Poplar in Centralia Friday afternoon. After the initial impact, Centralia Police reported one of the cars ran into the front porch of a home and the other struck a fire hydrant.
Police say the crash occurred when 69-year-old Maurnice McClain of South Pine in Centralia disobeyed the stop sign while traveling eastbound on 13th Street and collided with a southbound car on South Poplar Driven by Miranda Campbell of Broadway Street in Richview. After the crash, McClain’s car left the roadway and hit the front steps and porch of the Payton Harker home in the 1300 block of South Poplar. Campbell’s car struck a fire hydrant, cracking it at the base and causing water to flood the area until public works could turn it off.
McClain was taken by ambulance to SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital, while Campbell and a four-year-old juvenile girl from Richview went to the hospital by private vehicle.
The Centralia City Fire Department assisted the victims at the scene.
The crash was reported at 2:16 Friday afternoon.
